The
Gunnison River not only offers outstanding scenery and fishing,
but exceptional whitewater rafting in a wild river canyon too. Black
Canyon Anglers guide adrenaline - pumping family rafting trips beginning
mid-May through the end of September, depending on water
flow levels.
The day before your trip, the rafts and gear are packed in via horseback.
The following day, all guests and guides hike down a one-mile side
canyon to the river together.
The gorge is home to incredible wildlife including big horn sheep,
river otter, bald eagles and osprey, setting the mood for a wonderful
wilderness experience long before setting foot on the river.
The Gunnison River boasts exciting class II to class III rapids.
Beginning with Chukar Rapid, your first whitewater drop, and ending
with pure serenity, our competent guides are prepared to give you
a trip you'll remember for a lifetime.
One and two day floats on the 20 mile Gunnison Gorge include transportation,
quality gear and skilled guides who also prepare gourmet meals at
your camp sight. This trip winds through narrow canyon walls that
drop straight down to the river. Often times, peering up at these
2,000 foot canyon walls is not enough. Side canyon hiking opportunities
can be a part of your adventure. Request extra days to explore narrow
slits that lead you through geological and wildlife havens.
Below the Gunnison Gorge, the lower Gunnison River offers calmer
water ideal for family floats. Further down river, the Escalante
and Dominquez canyons offer a wilderness setting through scenic
red rock canyons. School groups, girlscout and boyscout troops will
enjoy this section of river.
