"I thought the best was the fishing, hunting, food and scenery, but it was really the nights around the fire pit that will bring me right back. "

THE BLACK CANYON OF THE GUNNISON
...famous for its large fish and dramatic scenery.

Since 1985, Black Canyon Anglers (formerly Telluride Outside) has made available to you the premier waters in Southwestern Colorado.

Our three-day fly fishing float on the Black Canyon of the Gunnison is recognized as one of the best trips in the lower 48 and begins and ends at Gunnison River Farms. The steep canyon walls, big horn sheep sightings, white water action, and most importantly, sensational fly fishing, make this trip an unparalleled experience.

On the first day of the trip, anglers load up on energy with breakfast at the Farm and pack up to hike down Chukar trail, a one mile winding descent to the Gunnison River. Launching just above Chukar rapid, two anglers, one in the bow and one astern, share the raft with a centrally seated guide.

Floating down the deep, warm canyon, casting to the banks, seams and deep green runs, anglers are often torn between the awe-inspiring canyon scenery and the abundant fish and wildlife. In between catching big rainbows, browns and holding on for the occasional class II - III rapid - anglers enjoy gourmet meals cooked by the guides each day.

When guests wish to wade the Gunnison River, or simply want a shorter float trip...options are plentiful both up and downstream. One-day float trips and full and half day walk-n-wade guided trips are available from the Farm. Jet boat trips and duckies are also available. And Spring Creek fishing for native cutthroat and brook trout is another option, just a short drive away.

Additionally, anglers staying at the Farm will find an abundance of ideal fishing locations right outside their cabin door, including trout ponds, bass ponds and five miles of Gunnison River frontage. The ponds are a perfect place before and after trips to just wet a line or practice angling skills with a seasoned guide.

FACTOID The Gunnison is the second largest river in the state of Colorado and, according to the Division of Wildlife, has more fish per mile than any other river in the state.
